So much I want to tell YOU

“There’s so much I want to say to YOU, but I can’t speak or express it. Read the signs.”

Maggy gets a makeover! ...again!

Been having an idea in my head for a few days now and was thinking about how I would introduce a new character. Low and behold, little Maggy wouldn't stop bothering me about it. So I gave in and gave her some new duds. The ones to the left, she's already worn before but the right...its a secret.

This project has no name. It will not be a comic. Just something for fun that I want to do while I work on JollyBeans. More soon.

Blame it on the Boogie

So, I thought I had a fantastic idea with using traditional mediums. I also thought it'd be a good idea to become reaquainted with my x-acto knife to see what genius piece I could come up with. So it all started with a sketch. At this point in time, I got a little over excited. The size of the sketch is huge which shows that I think this idea will work out SO well, that I became over ambitious. Naturally I decided to use Michael and Emica as my guinea pigs.

The inking went well. Was very relaxing.

Here's where I regret not using my markers hardly at all. They still dry out even if you don't use them, but that was to be expected. But the shading made it pop so much more. So now that I finished, I figure it was time to put this masterpiece into action.

I cut the background out. Can't really see it on the cutting wood though.

Hanging it against my wall made it seem okay, but I needed something darker.

I still had some contruction paper lying around from my previous attempts at paper cutting. Laying the piece on there gave it the pop I needed.

And there it sits now. Pretty isn't it? Yes. However, I'm still underwhelemed by it. It didn't come out as genius as I thought it would. I recognize some of my mistakes.

I really need to pay attention to negative space. This piece came out too cluttered so the "cut out" theme didn't come out like it should have. Shapes are important, but here I just went with it, hoping that something grand would happen.

Also having so much color may have defeated the whole concept in general. Hmm...I don't know. I could make it work. I'm starting to jot down ideas to see if my next piece can be even better, and if I should use more paper cutting instead of relying on just the drawing alone.

Needless to say, I had fun with this. It would have been done sooner, but I've been sick so I was only able to work on it off and on. I also couldn't devote as much time as I would have liked because I'm working on JollyBeans. So hopefully the next piece comes out better.

Not bad for my first try. It's sitting happily on my desk. :)

What I've been up to the past month

JollyBean's launch is in 18 days! A series of the daily life of Connie, Jolly (and other clowns yet to be introduced!). The theme of this comic, "Even though you have bad days, remember, they can't possibly be as bad as Connie's".

This has been taking up most of my time, but I still wanted to explore some traditional art that I've been thinking about. The creative wheels are turning. But I want to make sure I have a nice pile of JollyBeans buffer so I can take the time to do it properly. I'm excited nontheless.

Stay tuned~

Together we'll be...

Just a quick pic between comics. Been thinking about these two. I've been feeling happy so I want them to be happy too.

A young Emica and Prince Michael.

Something new is happening

Hey, sorry for being a little quiet round these parts, I've been planning things! :D So, what have I been up to? I've been redesigning our friendly clowns!

Right from the start, I knew what I had in mind for Connie, so her redesign was really easy. I wanted to play with styles again and wound up liking her stick legs. She looks younger than my previous drawings of her but she's really the same as before.
And Jolly...you can tell by my sketches I had a hard time trying to figure him out. I'm okay with his final look but honestly, it's not really Final. Something is still missing, hmmm. I'm going to tweak his design a few more times, but I'm close! I'll post his final design of course.

Pretty sure you notice that both designs, although different from the originals, are much more simpler. There's a reason for that. All will be revealed soonish. Until then, I will work more on Jolly and other things.

Later taters!

Children of the Savannah

We have lions! I don't remember ever making a piece that had so much warm colors in it. I find it very refreshing. It was very fun experimenting with mixing colors, I must try more next time.

This is also the first time where a picture came out much better than what I had in my head, so I'm really proud of this one. :)

But there's more to come with plenty of other animals to practice. I hope to finish two more pieces before this month is up. Five pictures a month is a big goal but I'll feel quite fulfilled. Spring is only a couple of months away, who knows what will happen.

Caught Red Handed

She's caught stealing your heart!

This came out pretty cute I might say, with homage to my favorite drawings of last year (save for the flamingo one teehee). The raccoons were inspired by the stories I've heard of them stealing stuff from people as well as some currently living under my house.

Lesson learned here though is that I need to practice more on the animals before sketching them out on the final piece. So I will be doing warm ups on my next animal before I get started on the actual pics. And if I'm inspired enough, I'll even color them. :D

Dancing Flamingos

First image of 2011! I'm in the mood to do illustrations so I'll be working on these for a while. I'm happy with this one because it's pretty close to what I had in my head. Flamingos are awesome.
